The varsity boys golf team competed in the Division 1 Sectional Golf Tournament today at Yankee Trace. This event was contested on the Heritage and Legends courses. Northmont posted a team total of 365 which was good for 7th place in the 13 team field. The weather conditions were perfect, and the course was in ideal shape for low scores. Leading the way for the Thunderbolts was sophomore Alec Avdakov who carded a round of 87 after going out in 41 on the Legends side. Alec finished just seven strokes away from a playoff to make it to the District Tournament as an individual. Sophomore Noah Thayer battled back from a 7 on the par 3 4th hole to shoot 46 on the Legends and eventually come home in 43 on the Heritage to post an 89. Junior Cole Stephens showed poise and a competitive spirit today. After making the turn in 51 on Legends, he coasted to a smooth 42 on the Heritage to post 93 overall. Freshman Gavin Caras had trouble on the Legends as well with an opening nine hole total of 50. He was able to right the ship on the Heritage side with a score of 46 to post 96 overall. Sophomore David Richards has been a steady contributor for the Bolts all season long. Although he posted a score of 100, he was grinding all day to make each swing count. The Varsity Boys Golf Team exceeded expectations all season long. It is bittersweet that our season has come to an end, but the future is bright. Our squad was composed of one junior, four sophomores, and one freshmen. With four freshmen and a sophomore on our JV squad, we look to continue to grow together as a team as we look forward to the 2017 campaign. Hats off to a great season men!
