EMERGING SPORT — ROWING
We thought this might interest some —
My name is Gracie Barbara and I am an assistant coach for University of Louisville Women’s Rowing team. I’m reaching out to you because we have this unique opportunity within our team. We are looking for high school elite level athletes that are just shy of going Division I in their sport. We want to give them the opportunity to learn a new sport and compete at the D1 level. Half of our current roster is made up of these types of athletes who have never rowed before college but had a desire to compete after high school at a competitive level. These athletes usually end up on significant athletic scholarships once they learn how to row and perform on the team. All of our rowers receive academic, life skills, medical, and nutritional support in addition to training in top-notch facilities. Rowing is a sport that talented athletes can quickly excel at. In fact, here’s an interesting fact: half of the rowers in the U.S. Women’s National Rowing Team in Rio were walk-on rowers in college, and now they’re winning gold medals for their country along with being undefeated at the international level for the past 11 years! I wanted to reach out to see if any female student-athletes who comes to mind who are currently attending your institution. If so, we are hosting an open house/learn to row day on February 19th for any junior and senior female student- athletes.
Here is a press release with information about the open house and learn to row day:
