The volleyball team battled two of Ohio’s powerhouse teams on Saturday.
The Bolts started the day with Alter (ranked #1 in the region and ranked #1 in Ohio Division 2). It has been a while since a team from our region has been able to defeat Alter but Northmont was able to do it this year. The Thunderbolts started with a lead but Alter came storming back to tie the first set at 24-24. The teams traded punches back and forth until Northmont was able to produce a huge block that fell in the corner to take the first set 31-29. The battle continued in the second set until Abdihafid Abas crushed a kill to finish 25-23. Northmont continued to struggle with focus in the first week of the season and dropped the third set 15-25 but the regained their composure and finished the win by taking the 4th set 25-18.
After an emotional battle with Alter, Northmont faced Westerville South, a state championship contender. Westerville South has a really strong team which includes 9 seniors. They have a very talented 6’6 setter surrounded but a strong group of hitters. There quick offense was too much for Northmont to handle at this point in the season. The Thunderbolts battled hard but dropped the match 25-23, 25-21, 25-20.
The season record is 3-1.
