Austin Pearce is this week’s swimmer of the week for his performance at the Greenon Invitational. Austin is a junior and was named Most Improved swimmer last year for the Bolts. Austin placed 2nd in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.61. In the 100 yard freestyle, Austin came in 5th place with a 55.21. He helped his 200 yard freestyle relay to a 2nd place finish along with a 3rd place finish in the 200 yard medley relay in which he swam the freestyle leg of the race. Congratulations Austin on a job well done!
Hannah Hapner is this week’s swimmer of the week for her performance at the Greenon Invitational. Hannah is a senior captain that was just honored as the Rotary Athlete of the month for December. Hannah placed 2nd in the 50 yard butterfly achieving her best time of 30.99. She also placed 6th in the 100 yard I.M. beating her personal best time by 7 seconds with a 1:11.63. Hannah was a member of the 200 yard medley relay swimming the breaststroke leg that placed 4th along with the 200 yard freestyle relay that placed 5th overall. Congratulations Hannah on a job well done!
Your Northmont girls bowling Varsity and JV teams had a successful week on the lanes.
The JV squad won both of their matches taking Butler down on Thursday at Marian lanes. Then on Friday, in a home match at Thunderbowl Lanes, they defeated Sidney.
The Varsity squad lost a close match by 38 pins, 1931 to 1893, to Butler on Thursday. They were able to regroup at home on Friday to beat Sidney 1931 to 1777, giving them confidence going into the GWOC tournament.
On Saturday the varsity girls competed in the GWOC Pre-Season Tournament. Last year the girls finished 10th. This year was a different story. The girls after 3 games, highlighted by Juniors Kristin Beighley and Taylor Herchenbach rolling a 542 and 541 series, were firmly in the hunt for match play. After a total team effort in 6 Baker games the girls finished 7th. Qualifying for their first ever GWOC match play. In match play they faced #2 seed Wayne in a best of 5 format. In the end Wayne prevailed 3-1.

Northmont swimmers competed Saturday, December 13 at Trotwood High School for the Greenon Invitational. The Men’s team had an impressive win over 22 teams, and the Women’s team fought hard for a third place finish against 23 teams. This was a sprint meet which is a shorter version of our regular meet format.
On the Men’s side, Matt Pfeffer, Justin Parrett, Justin DeLano, and Austin Pearce placed 3rd in the 200 yard Medley Relay. The “B” Medley Relay was 8th place with Tyler Sterner, Tanner Garrison, Jake Bowers, and Tyler Adams. Austin Pearce placed 5th in the 100 yard Freestyle and 2nd in the 50 yard freestyle. Justin DeLano placed 7th in the 100 yard freestyle and 5th in the 50 yard butterfly. Justin Parrett placed 5th in the 100 yard I.M. and 2nd in the 50 yard breaststroke. Matt Pfeffer placed 7th in the 50 yard freestyle and 9th in 50 yard backstroke. Zach Kirby placed 7th in the 50 yard backstroke along with Tyler Sterner placing 8th in backstroke as well. Tanner Garrison placed 6th and Jake Bowers was 7th in 50 yard breastroke. The men ending the day with a nail biter in 200 freestyle relay when Austin Pearce, Justin DeLano, Justin Parrett, and Matt Pfeffer were out touched by .28 hundredths of a second for 2nd place. The “B” freestyle relay with Tyler Ohlemacher, Tyler Adams, Jake Bowers, and Zach Kirby placed 8th.
The ladies started the meet placing 4th in the 200 yard Medley Relay with McKenzie Stefanoff, Hannah Hapner, Delaney Schreiber, and Rachel Collopy. Delaney Schreiber placed 3rd in the 100 yard freestyle and 2nd in the 50 yard backstroke. Hannah Hapner placed 6th in the 100 yard I.M. and 2nd in the 50 yard butterfly. Isabel Stoffel placed 10th in the 50 yard butterfly. The women finished up the meet placing 5th in the 200 yard freestyle relay with Isabel Stoffel, Rachel Collopy, Hannah Hapner, and Delaney Schreiber.
The Thunderbolts will be back in the water Saturday, December 20 at Wright State University for the Butler Invitational.
Delaney Schreiber was selected the first swimmer of the week on the women’s side. Delaney is a junior captain and was named MVP her sophomore year for the Bolts. At the first home swim meet, Delaney broke the first school record of the season in the 500 yard freestyle going 5:36.40, placing first. She also won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:05.85 and anchored the winning 400 free relay, splitting a 59.50 in the 100 free. Congratulations to Delaney on a job well done!
Tyler Ohlemacher was named the first swimmer of the week on the the men’s side. Tyler is a junior and first year swimmer for the Thunderbolts. He received this honor because of his hard work and dedication in and out of the pool. Tyler swam his first 50 yard freestyle in 27.67 and the 100 yard freestyle in 1:04.6 on the 400 yard freestyle relay. His coaches were very impressed with his performance at the first home swim meet. Congratulations Tyler on a job well done!
