Northmont Senior High School
Fairmont High School
The Varsity Boys’ Golf Team faced off against the Firebirds of Fairmont HS this afternoon in our first dual match of the season. This event was contested on the back nine at Beavercreek Golf Club. Low scores were at a premium for both teams today as several players threatened to break par. Medalist honors for today’s match went to Fairmont’s Luke Van Leeuwan who posted an even par total of 36.
Leading the way for the T-Bolts was junior David Richards who posted a season best total of 39! Senior Cole Stephens had it going early on his way to a score of 41. Junior Noah Thayer made some crucial putts to secure a round of 43. Rounding out the team score for Northmont was junior Alec Avdakov who carded a round of 49 despite a 10 on the par 5, 15th hole. Sophomores Gavin Caras and Justus Thomas both added rounds of 50 for the Thundebolts.
Our team score of 172 was not good enough to overcome the 160 total from Fairmont tonight. We have many positive things to take away from this match. Many of our players are starting to find mid-season form. We are learning what we need to work on in practice to continue to improve. It all starts on the putting green. If we can limit 3 putts on the green, we can save crucial strokes that will allow us to see personal growth and lower round totals in the near future.
The JV Boys’ Golf Team faced off against Tippecanoe HS today as well. This home match was contested on the links of Meadowbrook at Clayton. Senior Drew Johnson led the way for the T-Bolts firing an impressive round of 42. Freshman Brady Hobert added a personal best round of 43. Sophomore Layne Tobe had a personal best round of 45 today. Junior Jackson Trottier continued his steady play on his way to a round of 46. Junior Reagan Schommer added a personal best total of 46 as well. Junior AJ Simmons also had a personal best with a score of 48. The JV dudes cruised to victory with a team total of 176 to Tippecanoe’s 221.
We will see you on the links! Go Bolts!
