Quiz Bowl History

The Academic Challenge team was formed in the early 1990s under the leadership of Carol Roberts, who is one of three head coaches in the program’s history. Bill Patrizio coached the team from 2003-2005 before turning over the reigns to David Jones. Under coach Jones, the team has had a great deal of success, including:

  • 83 tournament championships
  • 9 State Championships
  • 8 OAC West Central Regional championships
  • 15 consecutive league championships (including a GWOC record 149 game winning streak)
  • 4 televised tournament championships (High-Q and Brain Game)
  • 2 college tournament championships (competing against college teams, with wins over Ohio State, Michigan, Princeton, and Case Western, among others)

Since 2005, Mr. Jones’s teams have compiled a record of 2,390 wins and 859 losses, equating to a 73.6% winning percentage.
